NBA Playoffs are Here – NBA Clippers vs. UTAH Jazz __ Round 1 Game 1

Round one action last night. The LA Clippers vs. UTAH Jazz. On hold for ESPN to work wherever the west coast game crew was going to be. Luckily, the clippers won the last game of the season in the previous round. That means that they would start in Los Angeles on Saturday April 15 at the Staples Center . I’m very glad they did. Because of that, it became a home game for me. My task was to work for ESPN on their Saturday night west coast coverage of the NBA playoffs. Live NBA playoffs are where magic can happen.

As a video editor working on the latest intagrated and networked machines, my job was to give Americia what it wanted and needed. That’s to say, accurate and complete coverage of the game. My replay responsibilites were for Camera’s 6 and 8, the low slash angles. During the game, everthing that occured was recorded and scrutenised for documentation. Often I would see a great defensive play or offensive action that needed to be seen. I would cue it up, then sell it to the producer to get it to air. At a stoppage in play we would go back and document what happened. After going to air I would then clip the action and make it for peremement archive. It would be sent to a centeral server database to be accesed at will. This fast paced, live action, is the way most of the events go. There is a need to be quick and to react properly to the flow of the game and the demands of the producer. It’s challenging but rewarding.

With a last second shot UTAH took the lead and won the game 97-95. UTAH Jazz leads the series 1-0. It was great to be a part of. Many more games to go!
